Mark's Biography

My name is Mark Josse I have been playing chess in London and the UK for 40 years. I am a UK National Master and FIDE Candidate Master playing in the British Chess League, Surrey Chess League and London League. I have represented Surrey at chess on numerous occasions.

My journey with chess started at nine years old learning the moves from my father in the seventies in a boom period for English chess. As a junior, I was fortunate to attend Richmond Junior Chess club on a Saturday morning run by Richard James. Being part of the club enabled me to gain exposure to the London chess scene and at 12 years old, I was travelling all over London taking part in chess events at weekends.

I have competed in and won numerous individual and team tournaments including winning the 2019 British Over 50 Championship. I am still an active player representing Surbiton, Richmond, Sandhurst and The Rookies in various UK leagues.

I have taught chess for the past 10 years in clubs, schools and with private students in numerous different settings
